Biography

Julia Rutherford is a certified physician assistant and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She received her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and Bachelor of Science in biology from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY.

Julia was part of a New Visions program during her senior year of high school and spent time shadowing different fields of medicine. Seeing physician assistants and other medical providers improve patients’ lives inspired her to go to PA school. Her favorite part of being a physician assistant is educating patients and making an individualized treatment plan that is best for each patient. Julia believes caring for the whole person and considering not only the physical but all aspects of a person’s life that can impact their health is crucial. Talking with patients, getting to know them, and developing trust bring her the most satisfaction professionally. During her training, Julia had a rotation at a clinic that provided care for people living with HIV and individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+. Here, she learned much from the patients and how to be a more inclusive and compassionate provider.

Julia is originally from Ithaca, NY. Previously on the community service/outreach committee in the PA student society at Le Moyne, she helped plan fundraisers for organizations in the Syracuse area focusing on homeless and women’s shelters. Julia likes doing yoga, going on walks with her dog, and being outdoors in her spare time.
